Surfing

Surfing is quite an adventurous water sport in which the wave rider or the surfer rides on the forward or deep face of a moving wave usually carrying the surfer towards the shore.

If you are into surfing, Sri Lanka would be the best destination to touch down. Being an island located in the Indian Ocean, Sri Lanka has waves best to be ridden. Arugam Bay on the east coast of the tropical island is a world-renowned surfing hotspot that attracts hundreds of surf enthusiasts from around the world annually. Nearby hotels and resorts offer facilities that you need to indulge in surfing. It is best to surf at Arugam Bay from April till October during which there are waves of perfection to surfing with an average height of 1.5 to 2.5 metres. The period from November to March is considered as the off season for surfing. An international surf contest in which the world's top surfers take part is held annually at Arugam Bay. In addition to Arugam Bay, there are many places where surfing is done, particularly in the south Sri Lanka.
