Marking a key achievement in Sri Lanka Tourism's consistent efforts to boost Chinese tourists to the country, a Charter Flight, UL 1402 consisting of 93 high end travelers arrived in Sri Lanka to spend a week long holiday. The tourists comprising of high end Chinese travelers, including businessmen and professionals and their families visited Negombo, Kandy, Nuwara-Eliya, Yala and Galle before arriving in Colombo to attend a special function, which was organized by the Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau to welcome them.

The ‘Charter Flight’ from China is the first ever to Sri Lanka from that country and was jointly organized by the 'Life Leisure Holiday's" of Sri Lanka and 'Spiritual Journey' in Beijing. A media team from the China’s CCTV is also accompanying the group, who is compiling a TV documentary based on the team's visit to the Island, which would be shown to hundreds of millions of its viewers in China.

The arrival of the ‘Charter Flight’ from China is an outcome of the joint mega promotion campaign conducted by Sri Lanka Tourism in that country to attract a slice out of the growing Chinese outbound tourism market. It was recently Sri Lanka successfully conducted the "Sri Lanka Shines in Beijing' tourism promotional campaign, which included many activities targeting both the travelers and the trade in last August.

Sri Lanka tourism, which has identified the growing tendency of Chinese to travel overseas, has conducted a series of promotional campaigns during the year 2013, targeting those potential visitors. The key among them is the participation in four major travel fairs held in China, such as the BITE, GITF, CITM and GITF, which were conducted during the year 2013. Under the promotional strategy, SLTPB also invited and hosted journalists and Tour operators from China. Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau launched a “Bus Advertising Campaign” in last August Cities Such as Beijing, Shanghai, Chengdu and Guangzhou covering 200 buses.

“Sri Lanka Shines In Beijing” joint mega promotion campaign held under the guidance of Minister of Economic Development Hon.Basil Rajapaksa is a major promotional tool Sri Lanka is using towards attracting 2.5 million tourists arrivals per annum goal by 2016. The second step of the Joint Mega promotion will take place in Shanghai in November 2013.
